Violet Crown Trail – Full Length 3/16/25

Yep, I did this trail a year ago and completely forgot to blog it. But better late than never!

So here we go. The Violet Crown Trail is a master plan to connect multiple trails from the Barton Springs pool in downtown Austin all the way south to Hays County, almost to San Marcos. Right now it’s just under halfway done and is about 11-12 miles, but will be closer to 30 in the end.

I started at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center in south Austin and headed north. The trail is nicely signed and well maintained down there.

After a bit I came to the first road crossing at Slaughter Lane.

The trail then goes through a residential area and has blazes on the sidewalks to keep you on track.

There are also some good interpretive signs and displays along the way, educating people on the nature and ecosystems of Austin.

After paralleling Mopac Expressway for a bit, the trail becomes a road walk up Brodie Lane to 290 where it meets up with the Barton Creek Greenbelt and dives back into the woods for the rest of the way up to Barton Springs Pool.

This was a good hike and I can’t wait for the full length to be finished, all the way down into Hays County.
